A tool for Naturalistic Teaching

Model – Create the Environment

Create a Learning Environment

Discovering opportunities where the child can be taught is the first step in creating the learning environment.  Parents take pictures for the MySocius gallery; pictures of the child’s favorite food, people, pets, objects and activities.

We call this process “Recognize and Create.”

Read more about it in the MySocius User Guide.

Keith Allen, PhD writes: “Naturalistic teaching procedures can assist children transfer or carry the skills they have learned into the natural or everyday settings where those skills are required. Naturalistic procedures have been found to enhance the development of language, social and play skills. In direct comparisons with more structured approaches, naturalistic procedures have, in many situations, been found to more effectively carry important skills to the natural environment. In addition, because naturalistic procedures occur within the context of everyday life and activities, they can help make learning more fun and in many cases increase a child’s willingness to participate in teaching interactions.”

Keith Allen, PhD discusses Why Use Naturalistic Teaching in this video.
